Dark Elf Designs goes Hollywood!
Or at least Jerry Seward does.
Dark Elf Designs' Very own Brian Germain tracked down Jerry Seward online and this is what he had to say about the upcoming Darkeye movie
Dark Elf Designs: So your company's doing a movie based on the Darkeye Novels?
Jerry_Seward: The movie is based on a book and upcoming graphic novel - both called DARKEYE - but the movie's titled CYBER HUNT.
Dark Elf Designs: so the movie won't have Darkeye in the title then, is the main Character the same?
Jerry_Seward: Yes, the main character in the film version will still be Daniel Darkeye.
CYBER HUNT's a more marketable title for an independent sci-fi film, that's the reason for the change.
But the characters are the same.
Dark Elf Designs: That's cool, So for the people who don't know Darkeye already what's the movie about?
Jerry_Seward: The premise is basically that there's a computer virus that infects people, turning them into zombie-like killers.
It's a science fiction movie masquerading as a horror movie in that the "zombies" are based in science.
So, I've been researching things like DNA, implants, and nanotechnology.
Dark Elf Designs: That's an interesting twist.
Jerry_Seward: There have been so many zombie movies out lately that I wanted to take the genre in another direction.
I guess "THE MATRIX meets NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD" would be a fair description.
Dark Elf Designs: The newly adopted name for the company involved in creating the project is "Martian Productions" how did that come about?
Jerry_Seward: The company's been a dream for years. It was first thought up as being a company that would primarily be involved in science fiction projects, hence Martian Productions.
The goal of Martian Productions will be to tackle interesting science fiction movie projects.
That will extend to fantasy and horror as well.
Dark Elf Designs: Dreams becoming realized is part of what Dark Elf Designs is all about becoming, You've been a member for how long now, three years? Overall how would you describe the experience?
Jerry_Seward: I've had a fantastic experience with Dark Elf. I see the enormous potential in Dark Elf becoming something far greater. I want to already be in place when that day comes because I believe it will. Dark Elf's strength is in its many creators.
And what talented creators they all are.
Dark Elf Designs: I understand the website will be up soon for the movie, in the meantime any links for our readers to learn more about Darkeye or you yourself? perhaps where to buy the books?
Jerry_Seward: I used to edit and publish a fanzine called POWER STAR. New issues are no longer being produced but the Archives can be found at: www.geocities.com/Area51/Lair/7277/
The book that's currently available can be ordered through Amazon.com and iUniverse.com. It's print-on-demand. www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/103-0777838-8532616
www.iuniverse.com/bookstore/book_detail.asp?&isbn=0-595-29895-8
Dark Elf Designs: What's the title?
Jerry_Seward: THE ADVENTURES OF DARKEYE: CYBER HUNTER. It's just a barebones view of the DARKEYE Universe and that whole future mileau will be fleshed out much more in the upcoming film and graphic novel.
DARKEYE was co-created by my friend and collaborator Dan Bivens and me.
Dark Elf Designs: Are you and Dan also the writers for the movie Script?
Jerry_Seward: Yes, along with one other writer, Kevin Forbes. A published science fiction and fantasy short story writer, P.E. Cunningham, serves as Creative Consultant.
Dark Elf Designs: Does The movie Take Place before after or during the Novel?
Jerry_Seward: It takes place at the same time as the book so it's the same events, just told slightly differently.
Keep in mind that the character of Daniel Darkeye is Dan's baby. He loved the idea of a Native American anti-hero.
I expanded on that idea by giving him a sexy female partner which I named Raven.
I didn't like Dan's original idea of just having this one man going around shooting up everything.
Raven is so he has someone to play off of. I also expanded the cyberpunk future world to make it more in keeping with things people are used to from THE MATRIX and BLADE RUNNER.
But there wouldn't be a DARKEYE without Dan because it started with his original character concept.
Dark Elf Designs: This all must be very exciting for you, it is for us! What's the earliest we can expect to see snippets, clips, or trailers for the film?
Jerry_Seward: Yes, it's a huge thrill. I couldn't be happier. Trying not to think about it too much. Just focusing on getting the film finished. A teaser trailer is being shot in late October and we would like for that to be available to view on the Web site once we launch that. The teaser trailer is a standalone little film in its own right in that it doesn't depict any events you'll see in the movie. Just giving you a taste of what to expect in the actual film. Hopefully it will be both intriguing and scary.
Dark Elf Designs: That sounds excellent anything else about the movie you'd like to tell us about or any other links/ projects you are invovled in that you want to plug?
Jerry_Seward: Just everyone keep their eyes out for the promotional push. It's going to be as huge as I can make it.
Dark Elf Designs: Good to know Thanks for taking the time to interview with us. We hope to have you back once the movie nears completion.
Jerry_Seward: You're welcome.
